'This City Was Black' explores culture and identity in New York City

The Race and Ethnicity and Digital Audio and Radio teams from The Associated Press produced “This City Was Black,” a six-part narrative audio series that traces Black history in New York City. This edition of Hot off the Wire combines the six parts into a single episode:

  • Part one: "Migration."
  • Part two: "Housing."
  • Part three: "Religion."
  • Part four: "Politics."
  • Part five: "Entertainment."
  • Part six, "Education."
