In Friday’s episode of The Royal T, Tim Stanley and Hannah Furness are joined by India McTaggart, The Telegraph’s Royal Correspondent, to discuss the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s visit to Nottingham.
The trio examine how much the Sussexes’ appearance resembles that of a visit by working members of the Royal family, despite their status as private citizens. The also debate whether the pair are setting out a pitch to return to the fold – or are setting up a “rival court” with their portfolio of public appearances and private commercial enterprises.
Tim, Hannah and India reflect on the “mixed messages” such visits, including to Nottingham, send to the Royal family and public in their campaign for privacy, as well as the poignancy of the couple’s visit to the place the Duke first introduced the Duchess to the world in 2017.
