When an intergalactic flight makes an emergency departure from Earth for fear of discovery, the alien visitors leave behind one of their own - a stumpy, long-necked, wide-eyed, curious explorer who winds up hiding out in the backyard of 10-year-old Elliot (Henry Thomas). The pair form a close affinity, as the youngster recruits his siblings (Robert MacNaughton and Drew Barrymore) to help hide the creature from their put-upon mother (Dee Wallace). But THE GOVERNMENT have other ideas...
